Embark Member Update - July 19, 2021

A Member Update from the CEO, Deb Evans- July 19, 2021

Time for a news update!

Mark your calendars now for Wednesday, August 18th from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.  It is the Annual Member Appreciation Shred Day.  Kona Ice of Great Falls will be on hand serving shaved ice treats to help beat the heat. This year, we are excited to also offer personal electronics recycling that day as well.  Many of us have old PCs, printers, cell phones, etc. collecting dust at home and this an opportunity to safely dispose of those items.   We expect this will be very popular with our members so there will be limitations surrounding the types of items and amounts of items we can accept from each member that day.  We will not be able to take business or school electronics recycling at this event.   Details to follow in early August.

One more date for your calendar is Tuesday, September 14th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. when we host our 85th Membership Meeting event which was postponed in April.  This event, featuring musical entertainment throughout the evening by Chuck Fulcher, will be in the Panorama Room at the Airport and reservations will be required.  Details to follow in August.

On the operational side of things, we very much appreciate your patience through the pandemic last year and through the “re-emergence” in 2021.  We have had to shorten hours and close a branch temporarily and just generally deal day-to-day with illness, absences, and staffing shortages like most other businesses.  We have assembled a very fine team to assist you at both locations with your financial needs.  Both lobbies are open.

On August 16, 2021, we will be making a remote deposit change that will affect members who use this service to deposit checks.  We have always operated that service without any holds on your deposited items.  We wanted to make it simple and easy for our members.  Unfortunately, there has been increasing intentional and unintentional fraud through the remote deposit channel.  We are adopting the same hold provisions legally allowed for checks deposited across teller lines or in ATMs.  Up to the first $1000 will be available immediately and the remaining balances will be released in two business days.  If you anticipate the temporary hold will affect your cash or bill-paying needs, please come to the teller line for those items.  For more information about funds availability, click here.

Finally, here is something to consider.   While loan members are rejoicing at the extreme low rates, depositors are not.  US Savings bonds are often overlooked as a savings or investment option.  If you have funds on deposit you don’t expect to need in the short term, look at the I-Bond rates and information at www.treasurydirect.gov.   The current six-month rate on I-Bonds is 3.54%.  That’s a rate that can’t be beat in today’s economy.  If you need assistance with that, we can help although all purchases are done online now and not over the teller counter.

Have a wonderful summer and I hope to see you at upcoming events.
